On behalf of the automotive manufacturers Audi, BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Ford, Opel, Porsche, VW and Volvo HP developed a internet-based, international material data system (IMDS). The IMDS provides automotive manufacturers and their suppliers with information about the material composition of all, mostly supplied, components of a vehicle.
HP and the automotive manufacturers
The voluntary commitment of the automotive manufacturers to comply with the EU End-of-life-vehicle directive EC/2000/53 by using a standardized system initiated the cooperation between HP and the automotive manufacturers. The requirements include recycling 95 percent of all materials used in a vehicle until 2015. This is only possible when exact information about the composition of the supplied parts is available. Furthermore strict legislation concerning environmental responsibility in waste management, dangerous substances as well as the support of recycling require very detailed information about the assembled materials.
HP continues to develop its IMDS product range for the IMDS.
