With the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals Regulation (EC No 1907/2006) the EU ensures the protection of human health and the environment. To do so, it has put the responsibility on the industry and requires ongoing action from automotive suppliers as well.

When you produce or assemble automotive components, you need to provide safety information for REACH-relevant substances you use and manage the risk arising from it. Are you familiar with the current REACH requirements?

When dealing with REACH, there is a multitude of information and rules you need to understand and apply. For instance, substances listed in REACH Annex XIV are only allowed in authorized cases whereas Annex XVII restricts the use of substances in dedicated applications. In addition, you have the list of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC), which are the candidates for authorization. All of those lists and the respective Annexes are subject to change and need to be monitored regularly in order to minimize product liability risks. Currently, there are several deadlines (so-called Sunset Dates) in Annex XIV concerning the registration of chemicals and especially SVHCs: If you have pre-registered substances that you manufacture or import from outside the EU above one ton but not more than 100 tons per year and have not already registered them, the REACH registration deadline of 31 May 2018 concerns you. If you haven't yet pre-registered your substance, late pre-registration may still be an option until 31 May 2017.

Confused? Don’t be! Our webinar “Current REACH Requirements” (no. 6194) will provide you with the latest information. A detailed description of the content can be found here.
