has been extended by one hazardous substance, namely <strong>N-(hydroxymethyl)acrylamide<\/strong> (CAS No. 924-42-5). The reason for the inclusion is that this substance can cause cancer or genetic defects. N-(hydroxymethyl)acrylamide is widely used as a monomer for polymerization, as a fluoroalkyl acrylate copolymer, and in paints and coatings.<\/p><p><strong>What are the consequences of inclusion in the candidate list?<\/strong><\/p><p>Suppliers of articles containing a candidate list substance in concentrations greater than 0.1% (by weight) must provide their customers and consumers with sufficient information to use them safely. Consumers have the right to ask their suppliers if the products they buy contain substances of very high concern.<\/p><p>Importers and producers of articles must notify ECHA if their article contains N-(hydroxymethyl)acrylamide within six months of the substance being added to the list. Suppliers of substances on the candidate list, either on their own or in mixtures, must provide a safety data sheet to their customers.<\/p><p>Under the Waste Framework Directive (WFD), companies must also notify ECHA if the articles they manufacture contain substances of very high concern at concentrations above 0.1% (weight percent).
