end-of-life vehicles. This would merge and replace the previous End-of-Life Vehicles Directive (Directive 2000\/53\/EC) and Directive 2005\/64\/EC on the type approval of motor vehicles. In line with the European Green Deal and the Circular Economy Action Plan, further guidance is provided on the reusability, recyclability and recoverability of vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>The following points are new:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Improve the design of vehicles to facilitate the removal of materials, parts and components for reuse and recycling.<\/li>\n<li>At least 25% of the plastic used to build a vehicle is to come from recycling (including 25% from recycled end-of-life vehicles).<\/li>\n<li>More and higher quality raw materials such as CRMs, plastics, steel and aluminum are to be recovered.<\/li>\n<li>Manufacturers to be held financially responsible for end-of-life vehicles.<\/li>\n<li>The export of used vehicles that are not roadworthy is to be banned.<\/li>\n<li>The new directive covers more vehicles and gradually expands EU rules to include new categories such as motorcycles, trucks and buses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/environment.ec.europa.eu\/topics\/waste-and-recycling\/end-life-vehicles_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Here<\/a> you can find more information and the text of the EU Commission&#8217;s proposal (in English).<\/p>\n<p>Feedback can be given to the EU Commission on its proposal until December 1, 2023.
