This measure aims to significantly reduce the release of synthetic polymer microparticles (SPM) into the environment.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Who Is Affected?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Manufacturers, industrial downstream users, and suppliers placing polymers on the market that meet the definition of microplastics must report their estimated annual emissions. This applies to solid polymers that persist in the environment and accumulate as microplastics.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Key Deadlines<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>From 2026:<\/strong> Reporting obligation for manufacturers and industrial users of SPM (e.g., pellets, flakes, powders).<\/li>\n<li><strong>From 2027:<\/strong> Reporting obligation for all other manufacturers and suppliers of products containing microplastics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Reports must be submitted <strong>annually by May 31<\/strong> via the <strong>REACH-IT system<\/strong>, based on data prepared in <strong>IUCLID 6<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>What Information Must Be Reported?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Polymer identity and use<\/li>\n<li>Site addresses<\/li>\n<li>Applicable derogations<\/li>\n<li>Estimated annual emissions to the environment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All data will remain confidential and will only be accessible to ECHA and national authorities.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Why Is This Important?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>This reporting requirement will help monitor the effectiveness of measures to reduce microplastic emissions and provide a solid basis for future risk management decisions.
