These included both failure to report a \u201csignificant new activity\u201d and failure to comply with an official compliance order.<\/p>\n<h2>Why the penalty was imposed<\/h2>\n<p>During a routine inspection in May 2023, Canadian environmental authorities discovered that Est\u00e9e Lauder was selling eyeliner containing perfluorononyl dimethicone, a substance belonging to the PFAS (\u201cforever chemicals\u201d) group, which is particularly durable and poses potential environmental and health risks.
