IMDS Release 15.2 announced for January 21, 2026

The IMDS

The International Material Data System (IMDS) is expected to be updated on January 21, 2026, with the release of version 15.2. The new version brings several functional changes and optimizations that are relevant for all IMDS users. Here is an overview of the most important points:

Functional changes

✅ Exemption for ceramics and glass from the BPR regulation
Classification 7.2 (ceramics/glass) will be exempt from the obligation to enter BPR information in the future. This reduces the effort required for materials that are not covered by the Biocidal Products Regulation.

✅ No “rest” portion for GADSL/SVHC substances
For substances that are on the SVHC candidate list or marked as “prohibited” or “subject to declaration” in the GADSL, the “rest” portion can no longer be selected. This improves data quality and ensures correct declaration.

Display of the date of the last status change
A new column is being introduced in all IMDS search masks: “Date of last status change.” This makes it easier to track changes and update material records.

Change to test notifications
The notification for a successful check has been modified. It now clearly states that a successful check does not automatically mean full compliance with all applicable requirements. Companies must continue to ensure that their data complies with legal requirements.

What does this mean for IMDS users?

  • Less effort for ceramic and glass materials
  • Stricter rules for the declaration of SVHC and GADSL substances
  • Greater transparency through additional status information
  • Clearer communication for test notifications

Release 15.2 is a further step toward increasing data quality in IMDS and communicating compliance requirements more clearly.
