New IMDS terms of use allow reports to electrical/electronic companies

The IMDS

On September 8, 2025, the updated version of the IMDS Terms of Use – IMDS ToU V7.0 – will officially come into effect. This revision introduces several important changes aimed at enhancing collaboration between the automotive and electronics industries.

What’s new in ToU V7.0?

The updated Terms of Use include the following key changes:

  • Expanded Reporting Capabilities: Companies registered in IMDS – including OEMs and suppliers – will now be able to submit reports to electronics companies that have joined IMDS as OEMs. This initiative was agreed upon and supported by the OEMs participating in IMDS.
  • Name Change: The feature previously known as IMDS Advanced Interface has been renamed to IMDS Connect, and this change is reflected in the new Terms.
  • Transparent Approval Process: The changes to ToU V7.0 were approved by the IMDS OEMs. Representatives from supplier organizations such as AIAGCLEPA, and JAPIA were properly informed.

What does this mean for IMDS users?

In accordance with the IMDS change process, all registered users will be notified 30 days prior to the effective date via the IMDS website and email. Upon logging into IMDS, users will be prompted to review and accept the updated Terms of Use.

Why is this update important?

The new ToU V7.0 lays the foundation for stronger synergies between the automotive and electronics sectors. It facilitates the reuse of existing IMDS material data, supports compliance with regulations such as the RoHS Directive, and enables future system enhancements.
