Information and Services on RMI Templates and more

CMRT, EMRT, AMRT and further tools to report minerals

The Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI) provides companies worldwide with standardized Excel templates to transparently and legally document mineral origins, supply chain information, and due diligence processes. The three central templates — CMRT, EMRT, and AMRT — support different regulatory requirements and material groups and are an integral part of international responsible‑sourcing practices.

Below you will find an overview of the individual templates as well as additional IT‑supported options for reporting conflict minerals.

The CMRT has been the first and is the most widely used template worldwide for reporting on the four conflict minerals tin, tantalum, tungsten, and gold (3TG). It is used to collect information on the origin, smelters, and refiners of the minerals used and supports companies in meeting regulatory requirements such as the U.S. Dodd‑Frank Act, Section 1502, as well as the EU regulation on conflict minerals.

Areas of application:

  • Legal requirements related to conflict minerals (U.S., EU, customer-specific requirements)
  • Inquiry and identification of smelters/refiners (SOR) within the supply chain
  • Documentation and evidence as part of annual Conflict Minerals Reports

The EMRT expands the focus beyond 3TG and covers minerals such as cobalt and mica — increasingly relevant due to international due‑diligence requirements and the EU Battery Regulation.

Key features:

  • Standardized template for cobalt, mica, and additional mineral groups
  • Identification of critical points in the supply chain and SOR tracking
  • Updated smelter and mine list tabs for greater transparency

Regulatory background:
The template is particularly useful for industries affected by the EU Battery Regulation, as copper, lithium, nickel, and natural graphite will also be included in future versions of the EMRT.

The AMRT is the successor to the former Pilot Reporting Template (PRT) and is designed for companies that need to document additional high‑risk or significant minerals. The template can cover up to 10 additional minerals that are not addressed in either the CMRT or the EMRT.

Why AMRT?

  • Documentation of additional critical minerals outside the scopes of the CMRT and EMRT
  • Supports preparation for emerging regulatory requirements
  • Promotes comprehensive supply‑chain transparency for industries with complex raw‑material flows

Scope of application:
Ideal for companies seeking to establish a holistic responsible‑minerals program or whose materials may fall under future regulatory frameworks.

The IMDS is a reporting system used by companies in the automotive industry. Among other things, IMDS can be used to determine whether conflict minerals are contained in materials. However, it is not possible to submit a conflict‑minerals declaration through IMDS.

Conflict minerals can be displayed in IMDS using the “Conflict Minerals” filter. The blue triangles indicate the basic substances — the smallest chemical units that a material can consist of.

Since “Conflict Minerals” form their own group of basic substances within IMDS, the “Where-used” menu option allows users to specifically search for them in their own data records or in the data sheets received from suppliers.

The CDX platform provides companies with a centralized solution to meet their Responsible Minerals Reporting requirements as well as their legal obligations regarding conflict minerals. It supports both the U.S. Dodd‑Frank Act and the EU regulations on conflict minerals.

At its core are the standardized RMI templates CMRT and EMRT, whose data can be efficiently imported, exported, and processed within CDX. Through CDX, companies can automatically contact suppliers, collect questionnaires, validate and consolidate data, and thereby significantly reduce the effort required across the entire supply chain.

The platform also offers regularly updated information on smelters and refiners (Smelter Data), ensuring that users always work with the latest reference information. Security and confidentiality are equally prioritized: CDX enables protected data management throughout the entire supply chain.

Additionally, CDX provides analyses and evaluations related to data quality, smelter usage, and compliance status. This allows companies to improve their reporting, minimize risks, and ensure transparency in raw‑material sourcing.

iPoint Conflict Minerals is a software solution that helps companies identify conflict minerals within their supply chain and comply with legal requirements such as the Dodd‑Frank Act and the EU regulation on conflict minerals. It automates supplier data collection, smelter verification, and report generation. As a result, companies gain transparency over their raw‑material sources, reduce administrative effort, and efficiently meet compliance and sustainability requirements.

Why RMI Templates Are Helpful for Companies

  • Standardized data collection:
RMI templates are globally recognized and enhance consistency across international supply chains.
  • Transparency & traceability:
Uniform smelter IDs, mine lists, and due‑diligence questions enable clear and verifiable reporting.
  • Regulatory assurance:
The templates support legal frameworks such as the Dodd‑Frank Act, the EU Battery Regulation, and increasingly ESG reporting standards.
  • Supply‑chain efficiency:
Suppliers can respond in a standardized format, improving data quality and reducing response times.

The CMRT, EMRT, and AMRT Excel templates provided by the Responsible Minerals Initiative offer a robust foundation for transparent and compliant minerals reporting. With their modular structure, they cover all relevant material groups — from traditional conflict minerals to battery raw materials and other high‑risk minerals. This makes them a valuable tool for companies seeking to implement responsible supply chains and reliably meet regulatory requirements.
