REACH
As announced, ECHA has updated the REACH candidate list. Five new substances have been added and one entry has been updated.
The two newly added substances octamethyltrisiloxane and perfluamine are very persistent and accumulate in organisms (bioaccumulative). They are often found in detergents and cleaning agents as well as in electrical, electronic and optical devices.
O,O,O-triphenyl phosphorothioate is used in lubricants and greases and has persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic properties. The same applies to the reaction mass of triphenyl thiophosphate and tertiary butylated phenyl derivatives. Although this was not identified as an SVHC, it was nevertheless registered under REACH.
6-[(C10-C13)-alkyl-(branched, unsaturated)-2,5-dioxopyrrolidin-1-yl]hexanoic acid has also been added. This is toxic to reproduction and is used in lubricants, greases and metalworking fluids.
The entry for tris(4-nonylphenyl, branched and linear) phosphite has been updated as this substance is an endocrine disruptor for the environment, i.e. it affects the hormone system. It is used in polymers, adhesives, sealants and coatings.
With their inclusion on the REACH candidate list, certain reporting obligations now also apply to these substances, both under REACH and to the SCIP database. Sooner or later, they should also be replaced by substances of less concern.
