With the establishment of the central EU DPP registry and the launch of a dedicated information platform by the European Commission, key foundations have now been put in place. The DPP will be introduced gradually across various product categories and is intended to make information available digitally throughout the entire product lifecycle – from materials and carbon footprint data to repairability, recycling information, and compliance-related data.

Particularly noteworthy:

✅ From February 2027, the Battery Passport will become mandatory for certain battery categories.
✅ Textiles, iron & steel, aluminium, furniture, and a range of electrical and household appliances are among the priority product groups identified in the ESPR Working Plan 2025–2030.
✅ The first European standards for the Digital Product Passport are already being published, providing greater clarity on the technical implementation requirements.

In our view, the greatest challenge will not be the QR code displayed on the product itself, but rather the availability, quality, and interoperability of the required product and supply chain data. Companies should therefore start assessing their data landscape, master data management processes, and traceability concepts today to ensure they are prepared.
