REACH
Since November 29, 2024, lead in a concentration of 0.1% by weight or higher has been banned in PVC products in the EU. Both newly manufactured and imported PVC articles, as well as recycled materials, are affected by the new restriction. However, transitional periods apply to products containing recycled PVC.
The EU industry has not used lead stabilizers in PVC since 2015. This is because lead is very toxic, it can impair the development of the nervous system in children and increase the risk of chronic kidney disease and high blood pressure.
PVC (short for polyvinyl chloride) is divided into rigid and flexible PVC and is often used for window profiles, pipes, cable sheathing and floor coverings, among other things.
