SVHC reporting from January 2021 – online training courses on the SCIP database

SCIP

From January 2021, you will be required to notify ECHA (= European Chemicals Agency) if your products contain Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) in a concentration of more than 0.1 percent by mass and are produced, sold or imported on the EU market.

You believe this doesn’t concern you? You could be mistaken, though, because many products contain:

  • Lead, for example in copper or aluminium alloys (fasteners, housings, cable conduits, etc.),
  • Plasticizers (phthalates), such as DEHP (plastic injection moulded parts, interior and exterior linings, gaskets, etc.),
  • Flame retardants, such as DecaBDE (car seat covers, printed circuit boards, insulating materials, housings of electrical and electronic equipment, etc.),
  • Binding or release agents and stabilizers such as dodecamethylcyclohexasiloxane (in plastics, paper, paints, inks, coatings, cleaning and polishing agents, etc.).

In total, there are currently more than 200 SVHC substances on the ECHA candidate list.

What now?
In order to facilitate compliance with the notification duty, the SCIP database has been available as a prototype since February. From October onwards, you will be able to submit your information to ECHA using SCIP as a so-called dossier. In our online training courses, we will inform you about the background and objectives of the SCIP database, the requirements and ways of reporting, and you will learn how to best take your next steps.
