REACH
ECHA informed today that it has added two new substances to the REACH Candidate List. These substances are:
- Diphenyl(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)phosphine oxide (CAS No. 75980-60-8).
- Bis(4-chlorophenyl) sulphone (CAS No. 80-07-9).
The first substance is classified as toxic for reproduction, while the second has very persistent and bioaccumulative hazardous properties, according to ECHA.
As a result, the candidate list now includes 235 entries of so-called SVHCs (substances of very high concern). These may be banned in the future or only permitted to a very limited extent.
As long as they are on the candidate list, information about these substances must be made available to customers and consumers if more than 0.1% (weight percent) of them are contained in a product. And companies must report the affected products to ECHA via SCIP dossier.
