Lead and other substances to slide into REACH Annex XIV

REACH

Lead has already been on the REACH candidate list of substances of very high concern (SVHC) since 2018, is therefore subject to reporting within the supply chain and must also be reported to the SCIP database since 2021. Now the next step follows: lead and seven other substances are to be added to the list of substances subject to authorization (Annex XIV of the REACH Regulation). This means that these substances may now only be placed on the market or further used in the EEA (European Economic Area) if an authorization has been granted or applied for. The aim of the authorization process is to replace the SVHC.

In addition to lead, the following substances are affected:

  • Ethylenediamine
  • 2-(4-tert-butylbenzyl)propionaldehyde and its individual stereoisomers
  • Glutaral
  • 2-methyl-1-(4-methylthiophenyl)-2-morpholinopropan-1-one
  • 2-Benzyl-2-(dimethylamino)-4′-morpholinobutyrophenone
  • Diisohexyl phthalate
  • Orthoboric acid, sodium salt

ECHA’s recommendation will now be decided by the EU Commission’s REACH Regulatory Committee. As soon as there is news on this, you will hear from us.
