Mercury in lighting banned from this year onwards

ROHS

Are you a manufacturer of electrical or electronic components and do you supply to the EU? Then your products are affected by the RoHS Directive, which also applies in a similar form in other countries (e.g. China and Korea). The use of ten substances is regulated under RoHS, including lead, cadmium and mercury. The latter was previously subject to exemptions when used in lamps. But these exemptions are now expiring.

From February, compact fluorescent lamps with plug-in bases and ring-shaped fluorescent lamps will be banned in the EU. From August, T8 lamps and T5 fluorescent lamps will also no longer be permitted, followed by halogen pins from September. However, goods that have already been produced may still be sold.

You can find out more about RoHS in our training course. Current dates can be found here.
